David Mills

Veterinary Surgeon

David has been qualified for more years than he cares to, or can, remember. He has almost two decades of experience as a vet. He has worked in busy charity hospitals, farm practice, emergency clinics, Africa, the Caribbean, in prosecution work, education, and research; there are very few things he has not seen in veterinary medicine. He currently holds CertAVPs in cardiology and animal welfare science, ethics, and law. He completed a PhD in the ethics of EBVM in 2021 whilst working full-time. His approach to ethical veterinary medicine is simple - is what we are proposing to do going to significantly and predictably improve welfare so that any welfare costs are considered acceptable? In the realm of dentistry, it is not easy - or may even be impossible - to confidently determine how more advanced procedures can be said to be justified in terms of outcome or, when compared to the short lives of animals that no longer need teeth to hunt, etc, whether they should be offered at all
